Page 1 of 2 <br />DATE: April 24, 2017 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />William Joynes, City Administrator <br />FROM: Sue Polka, Public Works Director/City Engineer <br />SUBJECT: Brush Chipper Purchase <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Sources: <br />$38,500 $36,909.60 Equipment Replacement Fund <br />Requested Action <br />Authorize the purchase of a Brush Bandit brush chipper from Tri-State Bobcat in the amount of <br />$36,909.60, which includes the trade in of the City’s 1996 Vermeer chipper in the amount of <br />$4,500.00. <br />Discussion <br />The 2017/18 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes an item for the replacement of the 1996 <br />Brush Chipper (Unit 426). A copy of the detailed sheet from the CIP is attached (Attachment <br />A). Repair costs for parts and labor between 2006 and 2016 total $5,961.32. A photo of the <br />Vermeer chipper is included in Attachment B. <br />The 2017/18 CIP has an estimated budget for the purchase of the new chipper of $42,000 and a <br />trade in value of $3,500 for a net budget of $38,500 for this purchase. The pricing quote <br />(Attachment C) shows a purchase price from Tri-State Bobcat of $36,909.60, with the $4,500.00 <br />trade-in of the 1996 chipper, which is within the estimated budget. The pricing provided in the <br />quotes are as listed in the Minnesota State contract. The new machine has improved <br />environmental features, using Tier 4 diesel fuel that burns cleaner to meet current emissions <br />standards.
