<br />City of Arden Hills <br />Planning Commission Meeting for January 6, 2016 <br />P:\Planning\Planning Cases\2015\PC 15-025 - AT&T Wireless Antenna CUP Amendment - 3900 Bethel Drive\Memos_Reports_15-025 <br />Page 1 of 6 <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: January 6, 2015 PC Agenda Item 3.A <br /> <br />TO: Planning Commission <br /> <br />FROM: Matthew Bachler, Associate Planner <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Planning Case #15-025 – Public Hearing Required <br /> Applicant: FDH Velocitel (on behalf of AT&T Mobility) <br /> Property Address: 3900 Bethel Drive <br /> Request: Conditional Use Permit Amendment <br /> <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />The applicant has requested a Conditional Use Permit Amendment in order to extend the height <br />of the existing wireless antenna installation on Bethel University’s campus at 3900 Bethel Drive. <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The City approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) in 2010 to allow AT&T Mobility to install <br />roof-mounted cellular antennas on the Brushaber Commons building on Bethel University’s <br />campus and to construct a 160 square foot equipment shed adjacent to the building. The CUP <br />approval was granted in Planning Case 10-010. The existing installation includes six wireless <br />antennas that are housed in two 12-foot tall fiberglass canisters. The canisters are designed to <br />have the appearance of smokestacks and are located on the roof to blend in with the existing <br />mechanical equipment. <br /> <br />AT&T Mobility leases the space for their equipment from Bethel University. The City does not <br />receive any lease payments as part of this agreement. <br /> <br />1. Overview of Request: <br /> <br />FDH Velocitel on behalf of AT&T Mobility has requested a CUP Amendment to upgrade the <br />existing wireless antenna installation on the roof of the Brushaber Commons building on Bethel <br />University’s campus. The existing six antennas would be replaced with nine new antennas to <br />improve the provider’s service coverage and capacity in this area of the City.
