MEMORANDUM

COMM. NO.: 6131.037.08
CLIENT: Boston Scientific
PROJECT: Building 9 Sterilization Facility

SUBJECT: Land Use Application Narrative
MEMO BY: Joe Ford, RSP Architects
DATE: May 23, 2017

ATTENTION: Matthew Bachler, Senior Planner, City of Arden Hills
COPY: Lorne Rothbauer, Boston Scientific
Jeff Hejl, Boston Scientific

Boston Scientific Corporation proposes to construct a new sterilization facility on the northeast corner of
existing Building 9. BSC’s existing sterilization facility is located in the south portion of Building C and
the proposed work represents a relocation and expansion of the existing functions. This work is associated
with the overall relocation of operations from Buildings A, B and C to Buildings 7 and 9 that has been
underway for the past several years.

The purpose of the facility is the sterilization of finished medical products. Products are pre-packaged and
staged in the Sterile Pack and Sterile Prep areas. The packaged goods are then placed in a sterilization
chamber. The packages have a vapor permeable closure so that when they are placed in the chamber
steam or a chemical vapor permeates the package and sterilizes the product. Sterilized goods are then
taken elsewhere in Building 9 for final packaging and distribution.

The project scope includes approximately 5,325 SF of building addition and 3,400 SF of interior
renovation. The proposed addition is a single story reinforced masonry structure with a screen wall
around the perimeter of the roof. All mechanical and process equipment located on the roof will be
screened from view. The project also includes process equipment on grade, which will be located in a
steel framed enclosure finished with insulated metal panels. Exterior finish materials include translucent
fiberglass wall panels, synthetic stucco, metal profile panels, and insulated metal panel.
