Joynes, Sr., City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Sue Polka, Public Works Director/City Engineer <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Large Area Mower Purchase <br /> <br /> <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Sources: <br />$40,000 $71,949.12 Equipment Replacement Fund <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />Authorize the purchase of a Toro large area mower from MTI Distributing, Inc. in the amount of <br />$71,949.12, which includes the trade in of the City’s 1999 Jacobson mower in the amount of <br />$6,000.00. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />The 2017 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes an item for the replacement of the 1999 large <br />area mower (Unit 433). A copy of the detailed sheet from the CIP is attached (Attachment A). <br />The City accepted the donation of the 1999 mower from the Mounds View School District in <br />Repair costs for parts and labor between 2009 and 2016 total $14,471.62. A photo of the <br />Jacobson mower is included in Attachment B. <br /> <br />The 2017 CIP has an estimated budget for the purchase of the new mower of $40,000. The <br />pricing quote (Attachment C) shows a purchase price from MTI Distributing, Inc. of $71,949.12, <br />with the $6,000.00 trade-in of the 1999 mower, which is $31,949.12 over the estimated budget. <br />The pricing provided in the quotes are as listed in the Minnesota State contract. The cost for the <br />dump trunk that was approved at the April 10, 2017 council meeting came in $42,647.60 under <br />the proposed budget. The new machine provides an 11’ cut width as does the current mower. It <br />also has a totally enclosed cab which provides a better environment for the operator as well as <br />improved safety features such as brake lights and turn signals.
