Joynes, Sr., City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Matthew Bachler, Senior Planner <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Planning Case #17-018 <br /> Applicant: City of Arden Hills <br />Subject: City Code Amendment – Section 220.03, Subd. 1 <br /> <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />1) Motion to approve Ordinance 2017-004 in Planning Case 17-018 for an amendment to <br />Chapter 2 – Administration, Section 220.03, Subd. 1 of the Arden Hills City Code, as <br />presented in the June 26, 2017, Report to the City Council. <br /> <br />2) Motion to approve publishing a Summary of Ordinance 2017-004 (4/5 vote required). <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />Section 220.03 of the Arden Hills City Code includes regulations regarding the powers and <br />duties of the Planning Commission. Planning Case 17-018 includes a proposed amendment to <br />Subdivision 1 of Section 220.03, which deals with the composition of the Planning Commission. <br />The amendment would increase the number of alternative members that may be appointed to the <br />Planning Commission from one (1) to two (2). The Planning Commission is currently comprised <br />of seven (7) regular members and one (1) alternative member. Appointment of members to the <br />Planning Commission is subject to approval by a majority vote of the City Council. <br /> <br />The proposed amendment would help to ensure adequate meeting attendance for a quorum of <br />Planning Commission members. The proposed change has been previously discussed by the City <br />Council and is supported by the Chair of the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />
