(Simple Recycling) Services Agreement <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />Motion to approve Resolution 2017-020 for a Services Agreement with Great Lakes Recycling, <br />Inc. (Simple Recycling) for Collection of Soft Recyclables. <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The City was required to look at options to increase textile recycling as part of the 2017 Work <br />Plan for the SCORE Recycling Grant Agreement with Ramsey County. At the Work Session on <br />May 15, 2017, the City Council met with a representative of Simple Recycling, which provides <br />municipal curbside collection of clothing and housewares. The company is currently expanding <br />in Minnesota and now operates in the cities of Brooklyn Center, New Hope, Crystal, Brooklyn <br />Park, St. Louis Park, and Shoreview. Following their discussion, the City Council directed staff <br />to work with Simple Recycling on a contract for Arden Hills. <br /> <br /> <br />Services Agreement <br /> <br />The City Council reviewed a draft Services Agreement with Simple Recycling at their Work <br />Session on July 17, 2017 and directed staff to bring the Agreement forward to the regular <br />meeting on July 24, 2017. A few key provisions of the contract include: <br />• The initial term of the services agreement is four years. <br />• Collection services would be provided at no cost to the City or residents. The City would <br />receive a contract fee of one cent per pound of gross receipts of collected materials. <br />• Simple Recycling would administer the entire program including the distribution of <br />collection bags to residents. <br />• The collection schedule would coincide with existing recycling collection dates of <br />Tuesdays for properties south of I-694 and Wednesday for properties north of I-694. <br />CONSENT ITEM – 6G <br /> MEMORANDUM <br />
