Geotechnical Report
2018 PMP Streets
Arden Hills, Minnesota
WSB Project No. 010111-000 Page 4
The preceding is a generalized description of soil conditions at this site. Variations from the generalized
profile exist and should be assessed from the boring logs, the normal geologic character of the deposits,
and the soils uncovered during site excavation.

3.4 Groundwater Conditions
WSB took groundwater level readings in the exploratory borings, reviewed the data obtained, and
discussed its interpretation of the data in the text of the report. Note that groundwater levels may
fluctuate due to seasonal variations (e.g. precipitation, snowmelt and rainfall) and/or other factors not
evident at the time of measurement.

No groundwater was encountered during the drilling process. W e noted gray colored soils in many of the
borings. Gray colored soils can be an indication of long term saturation conditions and could show
potential groundwater elevations. Borings PB-15 and P-16 encountered peat deposits. Peat is deposited
in saturated environments, and the top of peat commonly correlates to a previous groundwater elevation .

The borings were completed east of Round Lake, and north of Valentine Lake in Arden Hills. According
to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Round Lake has an ordinary high water level of 890
feet, and Valentine Lake has an ordinary high water level of 878.7 feet. The groundwater level at the
borings will likely rise and fall in correlation with the lake levels.

It should be also be noted that groundwater readings are difficult to obtain in clayey soils that were
encountered in some of our borings. These soils have a low permeability and take a long period of time
to obtain groundwater readings in. If more accurate subsurface water levels are needed, we recommend
piezometers be installed to determine the groundwater level over several months. Monitoring of the
groundwater table elevation could occur up to the time of construction. This work was outside our scope
of services.
