Joynes, Sr., City Administrator

SUBJECT: Mayor and Councilmember Salaries

Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source:
$ $ $

Council Should Consider the Following Option

Adoption of Ordinance 2017-012 Amending the Arden Hills City Code Regarding Salaries for the
Mayor and City Councilmembers.

Background and Discussion

At the November 20, 2017, work session, City staff provided comparison data for various
neighboring cities regarding current Mayor and Councilmember salaries. Based on this information,
the Council discussed adjusting its salary.

Per State Statute, the Council can vote to increase its salary at any time, but the adjustment cannot
take effect until subsequent to the next election.

After careful consideration, the Council directed staff to move forward with an Ordinance amending
its salaries (see table below) which will reflect that of a neighboring city similar in size, the City of
Mounds View.

Salaries shall be reviewed every six years or earlier as determined by the City Council.

It is important to note the Arden Hills City Council has not adjusted its salary since 2007.

Attachments

A: Ordinance 2017-012
