ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL – NOVEMBER 27, 2017 6 <br /> <br />Councilmember Holden asked where the remaining 8.5 inches of trees would be installed. <br /> <br />Mr. Commers explained these trees would be added to the western property line <br /> <br />Mayor Grant requested further information from staff regarding the proposed signage. <br /> <br />Senior Planner Bachler reviewed the various signs being proposed by Dunn Brothers and noted <br />their square footage in detail with the Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Grant asked if the sign on the south façade was twice the size of the sign on the north <br />façade. <br /> <br />Senior Planner Bachler reported this was the case. <br /> <br />Mayor Grant questioned if any existing trees would be removed from the property. <br /> <br />Mr. Commers explained two trees were slated for removal in order to improve sight lines from <br />Lexington Avenue. <br /> <br />Councilmember Holden stated she did not support allowing Dunn Brothers to have a 90-square <br />foot sign. She explained this was not in alignment with City Code. She indicated she could <br />support a 50-square foot sign on the southern façade. <br /> <br />Mr. Commers commented his tenant has stressed the need and importance for these signs in <br />order to make this location successful. <br /> <br />Councilmember Holden understood the sign on the north façade would be lit. She questioned <br />what hours of the day this sign would be lit. <br /> <br />Mr. Commers stated the tenant would comply with the City’s Sign Code Ordinance regarding <br />this matter. He provided further comment on the history of the signage on this property, noting <br />the previous bank used to have a 16-foot-high sign. <br /> <br />Councilmember Scott indicated he supported the signage as presented. He asked if the southern <br />sign would be illuminated. <br /> <br />Mr. Commers reported this sign would also be lit. <br /> <br />Councilmember Scott recommended that the illuminated signs be lit during hours of operation <br />for Dunn Brothers. <br /> <br />Jerry Ropers, Dunn Brothers Coffee representative, explained the wall signs would be internally <br />lit and would only be lit during hours of operation. He reported a larger sign was being proposed <br />for the southern façade in order to be visible from Lexington Avenue. <br /> <br />Therese Reiling, Commers Leasing Agent, explained she has been working with Commers to <br />find a tenant for this space over the past six years.
