ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—MAY 29, 2018 2
Gregg Larson, 3377 North Snelling Avenue, discussed a letter he received last week from the
City of Arden Hills. He noted the letter was written by a private company but was signed by the
City. He expressed frustration with the fact the City allowed its logo to be used by a company
that was peddling warranties for water lines. He questioned if this company was investigated by
the City or if the Council just took the word of Metro Cities. He asked if the City was receiving
a kick back for the warranties and noted other municipalities have rescinded the ability to send
out these types of letters. He encouraged the City Council to not jeopardize the public's trust and
to not allow mass mailings to be sent out again with City logos. He explained that unless a
resident knows their water or sewer line was failing, an extended warranty was not necessary. He
indicated most consumer advocates including Consumer Reports discourages extended
warranties, whether or homes, cars or electronics. He recommended the Council acknowledge
their mistake, apologize to the City's residents, and break the contract with this outside company.
4. PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS
A.
