ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—MAY 29, 2018 4
8. PULLED CONSENT ITEMS
A. Motion to Authorize Purchase of Ford F-450 Truck with Plow and Sander
Mayor Grant asked why this item was not on the 2019 State contract.
Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka explained the 2018 contract for this type of
vehicle expires at the end of October. She noted the issue was the 2018 trucks were no longer
available. She estimated this vehicle was $2,000 higher than the State contract rate, but noted
this was a 2019 vehicle and not a 2018 vehicle.
Mayor Grant questioned if the Council wanted to go outside of the State contract to purchase
this item, or wait until November to try and purchase the truck under the State contract.
Councilmember Scott stated he supported the Council waiting for this purchase until November
when the vehicle could be bid under the State contract.
Councilmember Holmes explained the existing plow was not useable for the coming winter and
the new plow would not be ready if the City waits to purchase off of the State contract in
November.
Councilmember Holden commented staff has been really good about only bringing purchases
forwarded when they were really needed. For this reason, she supported the purchase of the truck
now.
Councilmember McClung asked if delaying action on this item for one meeting would impact
the City's ability to plow snow this coming winter.
Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka reported she was uncertain.
Councilmember McClung commented he agreed with Councilmember Holden and stated he
supported the purchase of the truck and plow at this time.
MOTION: Councilmember Holden moved and Councilmember Holmes seconded a
motion to Authorize Purchase of Ford F-450 Truck with Plow and Sander.
The motion carried 4-1 (Councilmember Scott opposed).
9.
