CONSENT ITEM – 6B

MEMORANDUM

DATE: July 9, 2018

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Dave Perrault, City Administrator

FROM: Sue Polka, Public Works Director/City Engineer

SUBJECT: North Water Tower Power Re-Feed

Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source:
$520,000 $519,800 Water Utility
(Approved to date)

Council Should Consider
Approving installation of a new power service lateral to the north tower in the amount of
$8,500.00.

Background/Discussion
In the spring of 2018, Public Works staff found that mice had gotten into and damaged a
majority of the wiring in the north tower breaker box. The electric service to the tower is critical
for telemetry, alarms and lighting for the tower. In addition, current Xcel Energy rules require
that the electric meter be placed on the outside of the structure. Currently the meter is inside the
tower. The new service and meter were not included in the ongoing rehabilitation project, nor
can the City’s contractor complete the electrical service work.

In order to provide dependable electrical service to the north tower and meet current Xcel
requirements, staff recommends that the Council authorize Peoples Electric Company to
complete the work in the amount of $8,500.00.

Attachments
Attachment A – Peoples Electric Proposal
