Page 1 of 1 CONSENT ITEM – 6C MEMORANDUM DATE: July 9, 2018 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers David Perrault, City Administrator FROM: Sue Polka, Public Works Director/ City Engineer SUBJECT: Old Snelling Avenue Bridge Improvements Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: $1,750,000 $91,360 PIR, MnDOT Bridge Bonding Council Should Consider Authorize the scope and fee for the preliminary roadway and trail layout, bidding phase services, and construction phase services for the Old Snelling Avenue bridge improvements with Kimley- Horn in the amount of $91,360. Background/Discussion Old Snelling Road including bridge reconstruction is identified in the 2018 Capital Improvement Program to be completed in 2019 (Attachment A). Staff is currently working with Ramsey County at options for the Old Snelling Road/Lake Johanna Boulevard/County Road E intersection and is proposing to move the roadway reconstruction to 2020. Bridge bonding was originally requested in 2015 and MnDOT has identified available funds in their FY2019 budget. The bridge plans are complete and can be bid as a stand-alone project. Staff is requesting that Council move forward with the bridge reconstruction at this time. The updated construction estimate for the bridge is $500,000. Half of the cost is proposed to be funded through MnDOT bridge bonding and the remainder through Municipal State Aid funds. Kimley-Horn has provided a scope and fee for preliminary roadway layout as well as bridge bidding and construction services. The preliminary roadway and trail layout will ensure that the roadway reconstruction will properly align with the bridge project.
