The play
structure is a steel structure that is showing signs of wear. The wood surrounding the structure is
in poor condition and the steel is rusting. The playground area no longer meets accessibility
standards or safety guidelines and will be brought into compliance. The 2018 Capital
Improvement Program (CIP) identified the play structure replacement in 2018 (Attachment A).

The playground at Cummings Park receives heavy use during evening sports events and the
City’s summer playground program. The trail connections around Cummings Park make it
easily accessible for many families in Arden Hills.

WSB has provided a scope and fee for design and construction services. We plan to issue a
request for proposals for the project to ensure a competitive process for both the site work that
will be required as well as the playground equipment.

Attachments

A - 2018 CIP, Playground Structure Replacement
B – WSB Proposal
