She also reviewed the sections pertaining to the City’s
calendar, which will display City events, City meetings and Park and Recreation schedule. She
pointed out the Quick Links, which will display timely updates, and that the Spotlight section
pertains to long-term or evergreen items such as TCAAP/Rice Creek Commons and GreenStep
Cities.

A discussion ensued regarding which informational buttons should be most prominent, ease of use
for mobile phone and tablet users, and accessibility to residents.

Councilmember Holmes requested that contact information for City staff be readily accessible
and easy to locate.

A discussion ensued regarding the options for adding City staff directory information.

A discussion ensued regarding the current website’s I Want To/Help Center function.

Communications Coordinator Skelly provided examples of other cities’ websites (Edina, MN;
Hopkins, MN; Big Lake, MN: McKinney, TX; Troy, MI).

Councilmember Holden asked about using multiple colors and whether or not it would be more
confusing or distracting for users.

Communications Coordinator Skelly stated that CivicPlus follows all ADA guidelines for use of
color and contrast.

Mayor Grant stated that he liked the idea of using more color as that would make the website
more vibrant.

A discussion ensued regarding the Council’s desire to incorporate more color on the new website,
while ensuring the website is user friendly to Arden Hills’ elderly community.

The Council directed staff to request CivicPlus present a palette that incorporates more colors but
to keep in mind readability, contrast, font size and style, and ADA standards.

2.
