• Should staff strive to increase the compliance rate and if so, how to accomplish this?
(Note staff would likely have to amend the ordinance language regarding collection of
these fees and a system or inventory would need to be created and maintained with code
enforcement to follow for future non-compliance issues)
• Based on a low compliance rate and the lack of verbiage in City Code allowing this fee,
would the Council be agreeable to removing this fee?
Should the Council recommend removal of the fee, this will be noted in the proposed draft 2019
Fee Schedule, which will be presented to the Council at the November work session. Staff is
asking for guidance at this time due to the fact that staff is preparing annual business
license/registration renewal notification letters, which traditionally are mailed out by the end of
October/beginning of November.
It should be noted that staff is asking for direction as it relates strictly to the annual renewal for
permanent signs and would not affect the City’s requirements regarding an actual permit for a
permanent sign erection (the initial sign permit) or a permit for a temporary sign.
