<br />Page 1 of 1 <br /> <br />CONSENT ITEM – 6M <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: November 13, 2018 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> Dave Perrault, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Sue Polka, Public Works Director/City Engineer <br /> <br />SUBJECT: TKDA – Professional Services <br />• Highway 10 Watermain Design <br />• County Road F Construction Services <br /> <br /> Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br /> CR F: $27,700 $32,000 Water Utility <br />Highway 10: $15,000 $30,000 Water Utility <br /> Council Should Consider <br />Increasing the fees for TKDA to provide engineering services for the County Road F watermain <br />project in the amount of $32,000 and the Highway 10 Watermain Replacement Project in the amount <br />of $30,000. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />On May 14, 2018, the City Council authorized TKDA to complete the design of the Highway 10 <br />watermain relocation in the amount not to exceed $15,000. Due to several issues that came up during <br />the design process, staff asked TKDA to complete additional work including: <br /> <br />• Numerous plan revisions requested by MnDOT versus one that was anticipated <br />• Right of Entry exhibits required for water service connections <br />• Request for synchronization document revision <br />• Buy America clause specification change <br />• Additional coordination meetings with MnDOT <br /> <br />On May 29, 2018, the City Council authorized TKDA to provide construction services for the County <br />Road F watermain installation in the amount of $27,700. Due to the contractor’s schedule on the <br />project and the starts and stops that occurred, the watermain installation took longer than is typical for <br />this kind of construction. Staff requested that TKDA stay on the project through completion. TKDA <br />kept staff informed throughout the project and provided daily inspection logs for City records. <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the Council approve the expanded fees for both the County Road F watermain <br />and the Highway 10 watermain projects.
