An understanding of population <br />trends and location of population concentrations is important for making projections regarding potential <br />impacts in the event of a disaster. <br />In 2010, Ramsey County had a population of 508,640 residents, with an average population density of <br />3,341 persons per square mile of land area. St. Paul, the largest city in the county and the county seat, <br />had a population of 285,068. <br />Ramsey County’s population is gradually increasing, rising 4.7% between 1990 and 2010. Since 1940, the <br />population has risen by 64%. Table 4 below shows the population change in Ramsey County between <br />1940 and 2010. <br />Table 4. Table 6 provides an <br />overview of the annual average employment by major industry sector in Ramsey County.
