DATE: April 22, 2019

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers

FROM: Dave Perrault, City Administrator

SUBJECT: Authorize Staff to Post for a Job-Share Customer Service Specialist

Budgeted Amount: Estimated Amount: Funding Source:
N/A N/A N/A

Council Should Consider

Council should consider authorizing staff to post for a Job-Share Customer Service Specialist.

Background

Following a discussion with the City Council at the April 15, 2019 work session, the City
Council directed staff to bring this item forward to the next City Council meeting.

The Customer Service Specialist position is currently a full-time, non-exempt, benefit eligible
position. Staff is recommending transitioning this position to a job-share position with two
individuals filling this role. This change will not exceed the hourly equivalent of one full-time
employee (FTE), will not be benefit eligible, and will not have increased budget implications.

Tonight’s action will only allow Staff to post for the position. Finalization of the transition to a
job share will be dependent on the Council’s final approval. The current Customer Service
Specialist is supportive of this change. The anticipating recruitment process is below.

Anticipated process:
-Council approves authorization to post
-Staff advertises job opening
-Staff reviews applications, interviews candidates, and selects a finalist
-Staff will add their recommendation to the consent calendar at a future meeting

This position will not be brought forward to the Personnel Committee or City Council for future
consideration except for final approval at a City Council meeting.

CONSENT ITEM – 7E

MEMORANDUM
