2 <br /> <br /> <br />Conducts research and analysis of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance and other ordinances. <br /> <br />Maintains Comprehensive Plan materials, GIS information, and demographic data; provides information and <br />advice on necessary changes, and recommended modifications. <br /> <br />Assists with and prepares periodic updates of and amendments to the City’s Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Conducts data research and analysis for economic development initiatives. <br /> <br />Works with Building Official and Building Inspector on code enforcement activities as necessary. <br /> <br />EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE <br />Bachelor's degree with coursework in urban planning, urban studies, public policy, public administration, or <br />related field and two years of experience in urban or regional planning, or equivalent combination of education <br />and experience. <br /> <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />General knowledge of computers and software applications including word processing, database, spreadsheets, <br />presentation and web authoring software; skill in the use and administration of Geographic Information Systems <br />(GIS); general knowledge of planning and zoning techniques and principles; effective problem solving and <br />communication skills; ability to read and interpret documents such as state statutes, reports, policies, and <br />regulations, contracts, and procedure manuals; ability to prepare reports and correspondence; ability to give <br />verbal presentations and speeches; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with supervisors, <br />City staff, elected and appointed officials, legal counsel, builders, developers, other governmental agencies, and <br />the general public; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability <br />to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to use predetermined formulas for land use calculations; <br />general knowledge of elementary statistical calculations and principles; general knowledge of basic geometry <br />for survey evaluation and various land use controls; ability to establish effective working relationships with <br />contractors, developers, architects, engineers, owners and the general public. <br /> <br />PHYSICAL DEMANDS <br />This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work frequently sitting, speaking or <br />hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, <br />stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work has standard vision <br />requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken <br />word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and <br />analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing <br />general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is <br />generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). <br /> <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Valid driver's license. <br /> <br />SELECTION GUIDELINES <br />Formal application, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may <br />be required.
