Page 1 of 2 CONSENT ITEM – 7E MEMORANDUM DATE: June 24, 2019 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers Dave Perrault, City Administrator FROM: Todd Blomstrom, Public Works Director/City Engineer SUBJECT: 2018 Street and Utility Improvement Project – Change Order No. 6 Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: $3,300,000 $3,125,099.23 PIR, Special Assessments, Utility Funds Council Should Consider The Council is requested to approve Change Order No. 6 for the 2018 Street and Utility Improvement Project for retaining wall installation along Indian Oaks Trail in the amount of $39,324.30 (Attachment A). Background/Discussion On March 26, 2018, the City Council adopted Resolution 2018-034 Awarding the 2018 Street and Utility Improvement Project to Northwest Asphalt, Inc. in the amount of $2,491,595.86. To date, five change orders have been approved totaling $82,048.53 bringing the revised contract total to $2,573,644.39. Eight pay vouchers have been approved with $2,192,760.42 paid to date. With the installation of curb and gutter and revised grades on Indian Oaks Trail, grading behind the curb at 4235 Hamline Avenue would require the removal of several mature trees and landscaping. In working with the property owner, it has been determined that a short retaining wall would be an acceptable solution to preserve the landscaping. The retaining wall is proposed to be placed 2 feet behind the curb. Concrete will be installed between the back of curb and face of retaining wall. Northwest Asphalt has provided a quote in the amount of $39,324.30. WSB has reviewed the change order and has provided a letter recommending approval (Attachment B). If the change order is not approved, there will be costs to remove trees, landscaping and provide restoration to the area.
