RICE CREEK NORTH REGIONAL TRAIL MASTER PLAN | 36 <br />• Additional benches and rest areas to comply with the Active Living Ramsey Communities Bicycle & <br />Pedestrian Plan <br />• 4.3 miles of combined off road cycling and hiking trails <br />• 5 miles of combined cross country ski and hiking trails <br />South Segment Proposed Amenities <br />The southern segment of the Rice Creek North Regional Trial will see the fewest changes due to is relatively <br />small sized and the fact that a majority of the area is a wetland complex not suitable to development. There will <br />be improvements to the existing County Road H parking lot and canoe/kayak access site, along with additional <br />trail development and access points to the regional trail. Development within the south segment of the regional <br />trail includes: <br />• 0.65 miles of bituminous trails, which would make additional connections to County Road H and Irondale <br />High School <br />• An Additional Access point at Irondale High School may provide limited parking <br />• An additional trailhead with benches, restrooms, drinking fountains, and improved wayfinding signage near <br />the Poppyseed Drive entrance <br />• 2.9 miles of combined off road cycling and hiking trails <br />• An additional 0.82 miles of combined cross country ski and hiking trails for a total of 2.06 miles of cross <br />country ski trails in the south segment of the regional trail <br />• Enhanced wayfinding signage throughout the trail segment <br />• Interpretive and educational signage along the regional trail <br />• Additional benches and rest areas to comply with the Active Living Ramsey Communities Bicycle & <br />Pedestrian Plan <br /> Please refer to pages xx-xx for the Rice Creek North Regional Trail concept plan. <br />STEWARDSHIP PLAN <br />The natural resources within the Rice Creek North Regional trail connection will be restored and managed <br />according to the 2018 system plan. Restoration and maintenance of restored areas will be a priority throughout <br />the corridor to carry out the mission of providing adequate sustainable habitat to support populations of native <br />wildlife species. <br />Land cover vegetation and management <br /> <br />Ongoing maintenance of established prairie areas include spot spraying, cutting back woody invasives and <br />prescribed burns every 3 to 5 years or as needed. Ongoing maintenance of woodlands will include foliar <br />spraying of invasive vegetation, prescribed burns as needed, native herbaceous seed establishment, and oak <br />regeneration plantings. <br />Future restoration projects are listed in the appendix.
