Parks, Trails & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes September 17, 2019 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />B. 2020 PTRC Work Plan <br /> <br />Chair Straumann recapped what trails and park projects were done in 2019, and reviewed the list <br />of potential items for 2020. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding playground structures, donation request letters, and possible workout <br />stations at Cummings Park. <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Blomstrom described the proposed <br />improvements for the Perry Park Dog Park, including removing the infield material, adding topsoil <br />and sod, planting some trees, potentially building a small shade structure and options to lower the <br />backstop fencing. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding a shade structure for the dog park, and potential spots for additional <br />curb cuts. <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Blomstrom said a feasibility report study is <br />underway for Old Snelling/County Road E, and they will be looking at options for potentially <br />putting a trail along one side of Old Snelling south from Lindy’s corner. <br /> <br />City Council Liaison Grant said he’d like the Committee to give the City Council a list of trail <br />connection priorities. <br /> <br /> Chair Straumann responded that they’d like to see segments on Old Snelling from Lindy’s to <br />Hwy 51, E2 to Lake Valentine Road, and Lake Valentine Road to Hwy 96, moving south to north. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding other possible east/west trail segment locations. <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Blomstrom gave an update on the road crossings <br />on Hamline Avenue near Floral Park. <br /> <br />C. Cummings Park & Royal Hills Park Court Improvements <br /> <br />Staff Liaison Knoll said the basketball court and tennis court at Royal Hills are being redone and <br />are in progress. Cummings Park basketball court and tennis courts are being resurfaced. <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Blomstrom noted the courts at Cummings park <br />are being resealed, the tennis court at Royal Hills had to be sub cut, concrete was poured along the <br />border and it needs to cure before they can finish the court. <br /> <br />D. 2019 Spring/Summer Participation <br /> <br />Staff Liaison Knoll referenced the participation lists provided. There were an additional 186 <br />participants in programs this season. New senior classes were also provided. The recreation <br />programmer evaluates the numbers and makes decisions on eliminating classes. <br /> <br />
