From: _
To: Todd Blomstrom; Mike Mrosla
Subject: Fw:Amended Planned Unit Development for Mounds View High School
Date: Tuesday,April 14, 2020 1:17:03 PM
Caution: This email originated outside our organization; please use caution.
From:_
Sent:Tuesday, April 14, 2020 1:11 PM
To: planning@Cityofardenhills.org<planning@Cityofardenhills.org>
Subject: Amended Planned Unit Development for Mounds View High School
To: Mike Mrosla, Todd Blomstrom and the Planning Commission
I have a few comments in regard to PC#18-014.
I am happy that the traffic and pedestrian study recommended improvements along Lake
Valentine Road adjacent to Mounds View High School. There is currently too much signage
and flashing lights which are distracting more than helpful. Hopefully, a centralized traffic
signal at the pedestrian crossing will be a big improvement.
A school speed zone looks good on paper, but as we all know, won't do much good unless
there is actual enforcement.
In regard to the realignment of the west parking, which I assume is the old bus lot, will there
be just the one driveway into that lot, the one on the far west side where there is state land,
or will the driveway to the east also remain open?
I question the wisdom of installing a 150 foot long right turn lane for eastbound traffic on the
road. Would that mean removing many of the new tree plantings on the south side and
redoing the sidewalk? I did not agree with the plan since before construction started by
having the buses turn into the parking lot east of school on the south side of the road across
from Janet Court, and redoing that lot to drop students off far from the school. Instead of
dropping students off using the loop in front of the school that was used in previous years,
the loop is used for cars to drop students off, and there is still a lineup of cars on the south
side of the road as far west as Hwy 35W. Now the plan is to add a right turn lane to help
alleviate the lineup. Does not make sense and will not change anything except the loss of
green space and trees along that south side. Maybe go back to buses using the loop and cars
use the bus drop off area. That would eliminate adding a turn lane that would not make any
difference in the long run.
