Bac kyard Chic kens Survey
11 / 81
30 Chickens can be loud. Chic kens often make a mess of the yards (or neighboring y ards ) they
are in and the accommodations for chickens are often unsightly. Onc e c hickens are allowed
there is no way of monitoring this.
10/21/2020 3:46 PM
31 Smells bad whic h permeates entire neighborhood, detrac ts from home values for surrounding
homes if need to overlook chic ken coops & chic k ens, att rac ts bugs. Chic k ens roaming or in a
run mean the noise & bugs are also spread out to eff ect more area.
10/21/2020 7:56 AM
32 Chickens are fine.10/20/2020 9:36 PM
33 People don't c lean up after their dogs , why add chickens to it.10/20/2020 7:51 PM
34 Farm animals don’t belong here.10/20/2020 4:41 PM
35 If they are c ared for well and hous ed s afely, it can work, but chic k ens attract raccoons , fox ,
hawk s and a lot of other predators that c an bec ome annoying t o humans .
10/20/2020 1:57 PM
36 Owners are res ponsible for addressing any of the abov e issues.10/20/2020 10:02 AM
37 If they are not contained they could get hit by cars 10/20/2020 9:22 AM
38 I don't have a c oncern 10/20/2020 7:24 AM
39 Not enough land for eac h typic al lot in Arden Hills to raise chic k ens, wit hout disrupting the
neighbors .
10/19/2020 11:00 PM
40 Potent ially lead to more and more requests of “novelty” items not needed in residential areas.10/19/2020 9:07 PM
41 I think they s hould be allowed.10/19/2020 7:39 PM
42 Chicken coops are s melly, es pecially if they aren't maintained frequently. Chic ken waste s tinks
after it gets wet. I do not want my neighbors s etting up a chic k en c oop nearby where I would
be s ubjec ted to the smell aft er a good rain. Where are these people planning on dispos ing of
the chicken was te? What happens if a resident st arts out diligent with c op maintenance but
then begins to s lip, or quits with maintenance altoget her? We have nois e ordinances for dogs ,
construc tion, and use of power equipment, but how is the c ity going to c ontrol chicken nois e?
What happens if a res ident decides they not only want to harvest eggs from c hickens but
decide they want to butcher too?
10/19/2020 4:26 PM
43 I do think they s hould be allowed for respons ible residents , but if t he c oop isn't cleaned, gross.
So jus t need expec tat ions and t he possibility to lose t he privilege
10/19/2020 3:37 PM
44 There is no reas on not to allow domes tic laying hens when properly c ared for.10/19/2020 2:40 PM
45 If I want to live on or nex t to a farm with animals I will move out of the city into a rural s ett ing.
This is not about being "inc lusive" for those who want to have farm animals on their propert y. It
should be about keeping the property values up!
10/19/2020 1:57 PM
46 NOTHING 10/19/2020 12:47 PM
47 Sanitation, disease, permits, v et care, vac c ines, s almonella, public health and animal welfare
regulations s hould be als o address ed. Should require a fenced enclosure, owner educ ation
course and regulatory compliance Same as for cat s and dogs s hould apply, not just focus ed
on nuis anc e c omplaints.
10/19/2020 11:31 AM
48 One problem may be that inexperienced chic k en owners may not k now what to do with chicken
manure or how to keep the c oop and run clean. I think it would be important for Arden Hills to
ins pec t the c hicken coops and setups once a year.
10/19/2020 8:25 AM
49 Not melted up 10/19/2020 7:37 AM
50 I'd rather hav e c hickens t han TCAAP.10/18/2020 10:40 PM
51 Lots and hous es are too c lose together to ens ure rais ing chic k ens won’t res ult in dis turbing
neighbors . If people want to raise c hic k ens or livestock of any kind they should purc has e
something like a hobby farm. Arden Hills is not conduc ive to farm activ ities such as this.
10/18/2020 9:34 PM
52 No reason 10/18/2020 9:27 PM
53 I don't have fait h any problems with be addres s ed in a timely manner.10/18/2020 9:15 PM
54 Needs enforcement of the chic ken ordinanc e, and this increases city and/or law enf orc ement 10/18/2020 8:35 PM
