Q4 Comment Responses - Describe any of your positive or negative
experiences with urban chickens?
19 / 81
#IF YES, PLEASE DESCRIBE ANY OF YOUR POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES
WITH URBAN CHICKENS.
DATE
1 I know there are some in nb and Roseville on my standard walk routes. I honestly barely
notice. Not directly adjacent to my property and mostly invisible from the street.
11/5/2020 11:50 AM
2 We have known folks who kept chickens and loved it. We have known others who gave it up
because it is a BIG responsibility. Keeping the necessary space for the chickens clean takes
time. Providing the necessary fencing and other safety measures to help keep out predators
requires time and attention. We appreciated having neighbors with chickens but are well-aware
of the responsibilities.
11/5/2020 10:12 AM
3 Involves the family. Nice hobby since we are shelter=in=place because of our tyrannical ruling
class Gov Walz.
11/5/2020 9:19 AM
4 All positive. They provided an alternate food source, they eat mice, don’t make too much noise
and keep to themselves.
11/4/2020 10:38 PM
5 They provide food and the owners take good care of them.11/4/2020 9:43 PM
6 Family members keep chickens, which attacked each other one day, resulting in multiple dead
chickens.
11/4/2020 3:35 PM
7 I experienced no noise nor odor from chicken coup. I've not had problems with vermin being
attracted to the chicken coup nor the surrounding neighborhood. I know the owner/family count
on having the eggs for food and quality protein.
11/3/2020 11:09 PM
8 Neighbors sold there houses and moved out because of rooster noise, and lack of city council
doing anything about it . people were very frustrated, after all the complaints was there only
option
11/3/2020 7:00 PM
9 I had four chickens for a couple of years, they are not loud, they eat all the bugs in the vicinity.
And the fresh eggs are delicious.
11/3/2020 1:57 PM
10 they are noisy and the people that had them did not do a good job of keeping them on their
own property so the chickens roamed the neighborhood and pooped all over the place
11/2/2020 9:18 PM
11 I know multiple people who own chickens in suburbs and have never seen any issue. It's great
for fresh food, it's entertainment for children and adults. They are just like any other pet,
except you get a product from them as well. They aren't even louder compared to other pets so
I never could see why they are not allowed.
11/2/2020 3:41 PM
12 It was great! Easy, fun, economical, more sustainable, and brings emotional benefits as well
(each hen has their own personality to bond with, there is pride in caretaking, etc.)
11/2/2020 1:45 PM
13 Free eggs. Pleasurable to watch them peck and forage for food. They eat bugs.11/2/2020 9:02 AM
14 I am related to a farmer who raised chickens and I know the downside.11/1/2020 10:23 AM
15 The chickens wandered everywhere since there wasn't a fence around the yard. They would
cross the street, come into my yard and mess up all the mulch under my pine trees. Had they
stayed in their own yard, there would have been absolutely no problem. (No noise etc)
11/1/2020 8:12 AM
16 No harm. Very quiet.10/31/2020 9:29 AM
17 Two of my sons' and their families have kept chickens. They enjoyed the fresh eggs. Their
children learned more about where and how we get food. They only had two or three chickens
at a time so it was not obtrusive for their neighborhood. The birds were quite entertaining.
10/29/2020 1:04 PM
18 A co-worker of my has kept chickens within the Minneapolis city limits. They loved and cared
for their birds and had very positive experiences with the birds. Their neighbors also enjoyed
having the birds in their neighborhood and it brought them closer together as a community.
10/29/2020 10:58 AM
19 No issues 10/28/2020 10:35 PM
20 All neighbors visited and took care of chickens, great learning experience, healthy food,
teaching kids responsibility and where there food comes from. This was in a dense urban
neighborhood.
10/28/2020 1:00 PM
21 We have kept chicken in rural areas. Our current urban neighbors have chickens and they do
not contain their birds within their own property. The chickens roam around in our yard. It is
10/28/2020 11:12 AM
