° - I am honored to serve as a City
', ' Councilmember and I am asking for your
:: , support for re-election. I first ran for City
Council because I was concerned that
wa a
 t
 ,..
,_. - ,.
 -M ... —
,.'r' __' l
'
,,
" ,.:.
residents' voices were not being heard on
issues. I ran to be an advocate for residents
and to keep the small-town, neighborhood
feel we all love and enjoy. I have worked
to keep that feel, even as Arden Hills
has grown and matured over my time on
Council.
T; _ Recently, a group of residents suggested
 g
_ ..:, - -/il `.
a code ordinance change to the City
Council. These residents did research, talked to neighbors, put a petition together,
and contacted the Council. Unforiunately, a majority of the Council was not
supportive of the proposed change, or even a broader discussion of the proposal.
I argued that we should further discuss the issue and supported trying to achieve
what the residents were asking for. That is my job as your representative.
A few things I have been proud to be a part of as a Councilmember:
• The City upgraded its bond rating to Triple A from Standard and Poor's,
due to strong financial stewardship of your tax dollars.
• The City continues to expand one of the jewels of living in Arden Hills,
our trail system. I have always worked to maintain the trails and build new
ones.
• I am the City's representative on the Lake Johanna Fire Department
Board of Directors.
• I have helped lead an effort to purchase land in southern Arden Hills to
house a future fire station/headquarters. A new facility in the heart of Arden
Hills will greatly improve response times to emergencies in our City.
• I am fiscally conservative - I have voted to keep taxes low, while still
providing exceptional services.
If I am re-elected, I will:
• Fight to maintain, enhance, and build new parks and trails.
• Work to build the new fire station/headquarters for the Lake Johanna Fire
Department.
• Be a strong voice to keep taxes low while maintaining the services you
have come to expect.
• Represent you, to be available to answer your questions, bring issues that
are important to you before the City Council, and make sure that Arden Hills
continues to be an open, supportive community to live, work, and play.
• Make sure that every voice is respected and heard.
I believe that Covid-19 may fundamentally change the nature of municipal
services and how services will be delivered. It is more important than ever
to listen to your concerns and involve you in planning efforts to meet these
challenges.
What Can You Do for
Water This Fall?
Fall is here! Temperatures have started
to drop and everyone is breaking out
their favorite sweatshirts and comfy
clothes. The Vikings are playing on
Sundays and pumpkins will soon
make their yearly appearance. Most
importantly, leaves will fall from the
trees and scatter across the ground.
While this is lappening, pollutants
may be entering your water.
Tree leaves contain key nutrients
used for plant growth. If these leaves
flow into our lakes and streams, they
will break apart and nutrients such as
phosphorus and nitrogen will be re-
leased. This is how nutrients become
pollutants! These nutrients srimulate
algae growth and reproduction. Algae
is natural, but it will start to turn the
lake green in large quanrities.
What can you do for water quality this
fall? Rake your leaves! Taking away
this source of nutrients will cut off the
algae's fuel for growth. If algae can't
grow, our lakes will be clearer. Grass
clippings contain nutrients as well. So,
if you are still mowing your lawn, you
can catch or mulch those clippings.
Leaves and clippings should be com-
posted or bagged and given to a yard
waste disposal organization. Don't
forget to check street storm sewer
grates and remove leaves and other
debris tlat could lead to increased
nutrients in our lakes and streams.
Arficle and photo courtesy ofRice
Creek Watershed District.
Please e-mail me at davemcclunga,comcast.net or give me a call at
651-332-0352. I ask for your vote for re-election to the Arden Hills City Council.
