Old Snelling Avenue Roadway Improvements
Arden Hills, Minnesota
NTI Project No. 19.MSP09107.000
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Site / Project Description
It is our understanding the project will consist of improvements to the existing Old Snelling Avenue
between County Road E and Snelling Avenue North in Arden Hills, Minnesota.
1.2 Scope of Services
The purpose of this factual report is to present a summary of our geotechnical exploration and provide
the soil conditions encountered at the project area. Our “scope of services” was limited to the
following:
1.Explore the project subsurface by means of seventeen (17) Standard Penetration Test (SPT)
borings extending to depths of approximately 14.5 feet below existing grade.
2.Conduct laboratory testing as requested by a representative of Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc.
(SEH).
3.Provide a factual geotechnical report with the results of our field and laboratory tests results.
2.0 EXPLORATION PROGRAM RESULTS
2.1 Exploration Scope
The field exploration was performed during a period of October 3 through 11, 2019 with the borings
advanced to depths of approximately 14.5 feet below the existing ground surface. Two (2) borings (SB-
16 and SB-17) were not completed at the requested of the client’s representative Short Elliot
Hendrickson Inc. (SEH) due to utility obstructions at the original boring locations. A representative of
SEH marked and surveyed the boring locations prior to mobilization.
The borings were performed by a two-person crew utilizing a CME 750 All Terrain Vehicle-mounted drill
rig. Samples were collected in general accordance with ASTM D 1586 “Standard Test Method for
Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) and Split-Barrel Sampling of Soils.”
The boreholes were backfilled with auger cuttings, or were abandoned using high solids bentonite or
neat cement grout as per appropriate local and state statutes. Minor settlement of the boreholes will
occur. Owner is responsible for final closure of the boreholes.
