Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br /> AGENDA ITEM – 1B <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: July 26, 2021 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> Dave Perrault, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Jessica Jagoe, Senior Planner <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Chickens Ordinance Discussion <br /> <br /> Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br /> N/A N/A N/A <br /> <br />Council Should Consider the Following <br /> <br />The City Council should provide further direction on the proposed chicken ordinance language. <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />At the July 12, 2021 Special Work Session, the City Council reviewed the first draft ordinance <br />for the keeping of chickens and provided staff with guidance on language to be modified or <br />researched for inclusion in the ordinance. Council direction was to bring this matter back at an <br />upcoming work session for further review. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />For this meeting, staff has prepared an updated draft ordinance with new language shown in blue <br />font for your review (Attachment A). The following changes have been made based on the <br />Council’s direction on July 12th: <br /> <br />• Insertion of size limitations for coop, pen, and exercise yard. <br />• Removal of reference to “run” and update language to “pen” consistent with <br />Recommendations for Municipal Regulation of Urban Chickens. <br />• Exemption for an allowance of a third accessory structure with a single car detached <br />garage. <br />• Expansion of screening requirement to include pen and exercise yard and height <br />requirements. <br />• Penalty, repurposing, and removal language for violations and/or discontinuance of <br />chickens. <br />
