The
Cities of Cottage Grove, Stillwater, and Falcon Heights have a license fee of $50.00. The City of
Minneapolis charges $30.00 and the City of St. Paul has set a first year fee at $26.00 then $16.00
for a renewal license.

Lastly, the draft ordinance previously reviewed by the Council included the language from the
City of Lakeville which was “The coop and run shall be located closer to the principal dwelling
upon the property to which the administrative permit is issued than any other residential
dwelling on an abutting property.” Staff has added clarifying language to this requirement as
reviewed by the City Attorney to further explain spacing between adjacent parcels and the area
dedicated to chickens.

Staff is seeking direction on draft language and next steps. It should be noted that an ordinance
amendment to the Zoning Code does require a public hearing before the Planning Commission
and City Council.

Budget Impact

N/A

Attachment

A.
