The Olympic track
cyclist won a team world championship
in March, medaled in Rio in August, and
started college in September.
Kelly, a triplet, grew up in Arden Hills and
graduated from Mounds View High School
in 2014. Her cycling career started on a
unicycle, as a member of the Twin Cities
Unicycle Club. Both she and her brother
rode for Roseville High School’s moun-
tain biking team. In 2014, she competed
in the Nature Valley Grand Prix and was
discovered by USA Cycling. That led to
her attending a track cycling camp at the
Olympic Training Center in Colorado and
making the women’s team. In 2015, the
team won silver in team pursuit.
another world championship event in two
years.
Clearly a risk-taker, she offers this advice:
“If you commit to something, it can take
you anywhere.
