ARDEN HILLS SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL—NOVEMBER 1, 2021 2 <br /> constructing a new headquarters in Arden Hills between Lexington Avenue and Highway 51 along <br /> County Road E. At the direction of the three cities, the fire department began researching potential <br /> locations and noted significant open space at the Anderson Center Property on Pine Tree Drive. <br /> Following negotiations, the fire department was able to acquire a portion of land for a future fire <br /> station. With the land acquired, the fire department is undergoing the design process for the fire <br /> station, and will eventually seek approval from the three cities to move forward. There is no <br /> timeline for construction of the new station, but it does have a deadline to start construction no <br /> later than June 30, 2026. He commented further on how this station would be in the best interest <br /> of all three communities and encouraged the Council to offer their support. <br /> MOTION: Councilmember McClung moved and Councilmember Holden seconded a <br /> motion to approve the Joint Powers Agreement for the Lake Johanna Fire <br /> Department Headquarters. <br /> Councilmember Holden thanked Councilmember McClung for his summary on this item. <br /> Mayor Grant concurred. <br /> Councilmember Scott discussed how this fire station would enhance the safety of the community <br /> while also providing much needed training space for the department's firefighters. <br /> Councilmember McClung agreed this new station would be a win-win-win for all three cities <br /> within the JPA in order to provide services for all residents in the service area. <br /> A roll call vote was taken. The motion carried (5-0). <br /> 3. COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> Councilmember McClung reported this was a bittersweet moment for him because he was on <br /> hospice after fighting renal failure and amyloidosis for the last year. He thanked the residents of <br /> Arden Hills who have supported him over the years and for those who have worked to make life a <br /> joy for him. <br /> ADJOURN <br /> MOTION: Councilmember Holden moved and Councilmember Holmes seconded a <br /> motion to adjourn.
