<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Planning Commissioner Onboarding Policy <br /> <br />Policy Statement: <br /> <br />The Arden Hills Community Development Department is committed to equipping recently <br />appointed Planning Commissioners with the necessary information to assist them in succeeding <br />at fulfilling the function of the City's Planning Agency. <br /> <br />Scope: <br /> <br />This policy is intend to guide staff when onboarding a recently appointed Planning <br />Commissioner. <br /> <br />Procedure for Planning Commissioners Onboarding: <br /> <br />It is the planning staff’s responsibility to host an orientation session within one (1) month after <br />appointment and prior to the commissioner’s first Planning Commission meeting. During that <br />meeting staff shall outline their roles and responsibilities of being a Planning Commissioner. They <br />should also be provided with the resource materials needed to succeed as such as local ordinances, <br />maps, etc. <br /> <br />Provided below is a list of items that should be covered in the orientation sessions: <br /> <br />1. Brief review of the community’s Comprehensive Plan. <br />2. Review the pyramid of discretion. <br />3. Explanation of the structure and workings of the zoning ordinance. <br />4. Review of the subdivision regulations. <br />5. Discussion of other land use controls enforced in the community (shoreland management). <br />6. Review of commission agendas and minutes. <br />7. Review samples of Planning Commission reports/memos. <br />8. Review policies on conflict of interest and Minnesota Open Meeting Law. <br />9. Tour of the community. <br /> <br />Provided below is a list of items that should be provided to the Commissioner at the orientation <br />sessions: <br /> <br />1. Comprehensive Plan <br />2.
