Although each has their own
contract with an animal impound service, animal control services are provided by the Ramsey County
Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office is recommending the contract cities go with the Animal
Humane Society for impound services. The other six cities have already signed the contract, Arden
Hills is the only outstanding City and waiting on Council approval. The City Attorney has reviewed
the contract. Once approved, Staff will update the website and other information regarding where
animals are impounded.

Budget Impact
The City budgets $2,000 for animal control services, our actual cost in previous years has been
$975 (2021) and $523 (2020). Future budget impacts will depend on how many animals need
impounding, but it is not likely we will exceed our animal control budget. In 2021, five animals
needed to be impounded.
Attachment
Attachment A: Letter of Understanding for Impound Services

CONSENT ITEM – 7D
MEMORANDUM
