Parks, Trails & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes March 15, 2022
Page 3

Committee Member Kelliher said he is a long-time resident of Arden Hills and loves it because
of the parks and trail system. He got a group together to work on eradicating buckthorn and is
committed to improving the trails. He is also a Minnesota Naturalist, a designation issued from the
DNR. He is an avid bicyclist, and volunteers at the U of M Raptor Center.

Other Committee Members introduced themselves.

5. REPORTS

Council Liaison Scott noted that the City Council accepted a $10,000 donation from the Spring
Lake Park Lions Club, earmarked for general amenities for parks, trails and recreation. A $500
donation was also accepted from the Arden Hills Foundation for recreation scholarships.

Staff Liaison Vaughan reported that the ice rinks operated from December 27 through the end of
February. An increase was seen at each facility for a total of approximately 5,000 skaters for the
season. Public Works did a great job flooding and maintaining the rinks.

Public Works Director/City Engineer Swearingen said there are 8 seasonal jobs available for
Public Works and also positions for Parks and Recreation and he would appreciate the committee’s
help spreading the word.

6.
