CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: September 29, 1998
TO: Cindy Walsh
Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrato
SUBJECT: Vaughan Property Exchange and Bethel Park Updates
The following is a brief summary of the status of the Vaughan property exchange and Bethel Park
projects.
1. Vaughan Property Exchange
The City Council discussed the concept of an exchange of property withoor Vaughan at
its September 28, 1998 meeting. The concept proposed by staff was the exchange of 1.78
acres of previously dedicated park land for approximately .75 acre of private property.
The area to be acquired would be used for the development and expansion of a pedestrian
trail.
qo
The City Council directed staff to consider and negotiate other options for acquiring this
property. One suggestion included the simple acquisition of the land area needed for the
trail. In the case of an exchange, the Council supported a square foot for square foot
exchange. The Council also expressed interest in receiving additional park fees from Mr.
Vaughan if the City were to consider an exchange of unequal size.
Staff will be scheduling a meeting with Mr. Vaughan in the near future to discuss the
exchange further.
2. Bethel Park
There is nothing new to report on this project. The City is currently waiting for Bethel to
prepare a concept design and cost estimates. Once these are received, the City Council
will provide additional direction on its interest for participating in the project.
Should the City Council elect to continue discussions, the Park & Recreation Commission
will be asked to schedule neighborhood meetings to review the project and gather input.
BF/sls
•
