DRAFT
Ms. Walsh also mentioned that she had reviewed some public safety surveys the Public Safety
Commission received. The issue of striping crosswalks was discussed. Currently, the Public •
Safety Commission does not support the striping. Ms. Walsh will ask a member of the
Commission to come to one of the meetings.
The Commission discussed Hazelnut Soccer field. The Commission thought that some signage
saying "you cannot use the field unless you have a permit or it's for City use" should be put in
place to prevent adult groups from using the field. It is meant to be a youth field only.
GATEWAY GARDENS
The Commission agreed that a unifying theme would be appropriate. The Commission
discussed the idea of improving the quality of the gardens to include perennials, bushes, shrubs,
and a variety of flowers entries into our City should be our main gateways. Perhaps, the
Commission can pick up ideas from the gateways that go in on the corner of Highway 96 and
35W for the rest of the flower gardens in the City. Ms. Walsh will work with Don Messerly
and others who are interested in designing the gardens.
TASK FORCE UPDATES
Highway 96
Don Messerly presented the task force's recommendations concerning Highway 96. This
recommendation will be made to the Council on December 10, 1997. The task force has •
recommended the following for Highway 96:
• Median be grass with irrigation system and flowers.
• No noise walls.
• Possible burms by Arden Manor Park area.
• Lighting every 300 feet on north and south.
• 10 Foot trail on the south side of Highway 96.
• No sidewalks on the north side at this time.
• No trail as planned by the County for the 35W area, safety issues need to be worked out.
The task force also presented a conceptual drawing of Gateway Signage. These two (2)
gateways would be on southwest and northwest corners of Highway 96. The Gateway Signage
would include the following:
• Stone exterior with black lettering
• Anti Graffiti coating
• Evergreens (from TCAAP)
• Perennials and annuals
• Lights
Don Messerly mentioned the addition of a logo was still under discussion.
•
