Sept. 25, 1990 Minutes, Page 2
1991 BUDGET The Park and Rec Department 1991 budget
requests were favorably received by the
• Council. Council requested that program fees be increased in
1991 to help offset program expenses. Summer Playground Program
fees will be increased from $10 to $15. Selected young and
adult program fees will also be increased this Winter.
PARK DEVELOPMENT
1991 Trails Development - $27, 000 was budgeted for trail
development. Two options are available. Concentrate on
asphalting the trail connecting Cummings Park and Floral Park or
asphalting trails within parks such as Cummings and Floral.
Committee members Enrooth, Johnson, McClung, Magers and
Montgomery volunteered to walk the trails and prepare
recommendations for the committee to consider at the next
meeting. Subcommittee is scheduled to walk the trails on
Sunday, September 30, at 5 PM.
Park Development - The wet Summer months have proven that
Valentine Park and Perry lower fields have serious drainage
problems. If the Arsenal complex development is delayed,
Buckley recommended that both sites be considered for renovation
in 1991 or 1992 to correct the drainage.
PROGRAM REPORT A strong creative Summer staff-helped greatly
in making the Summer program a success. New
• trips and the penny carnival were good additions to the program.
New programs - Candlemaking, ceramics, beginning ball skills,
penny carnival, fishing, and new classes filled and parents
responded with positive comments.
Oliketa Day Camp - Kindergarten and first graders were off from
school Sept. 11-14 . The cities of Mounds View, New Brighton,
Shoreview and Arden Hills planned days of camp at Camp Ojiketa.
The program was a definite success. For the four days, a total
of 150 children took part in the program.
Afterschool Classes are underway at Valentine Hills and Island
Lake Elementary Schools. This is the first time of programming
out of Island Lake. Most classes are full to maximum capacity.
Holiday Specialty Classes A Halloween Cookie Class is planned
for October 27 . Thanksgiving and Christmas classes will be
planned for Saturday mornings, or days the kids are off school.
BEAUTIFICATION Messerly volunteered to direct the yard
evaluation/recognition program. Sand,
Severtson and former committee member Mary Gillis volunteered to
tour the City with Messerly. Tour was set for Thursday,
September 27 , 5: 15 PM at City Hall. The subcommittee will also
recognize neighborhoods with the most mailbox flower
decorations.
• ADJOURN Meeting adjourned at 9: 20 PM.
