Anderson , Director
Parks , Recreation and Forestry
DATE : January 3 , 1985
RE : 1985 Ice Survey
Staff has surveyed seven surrounding communities to provide you
with a small comparison as to how the staffing for our winter
skating program compares to that of surrounding municipalities.
The information is not intended to be a conclusive study, but
rather to provide some initial groundwork you might utilize
should citizens call to express concerns that our ice is not up
to the standards of our surrounding neighbors.
There were seven communities that were formally surveyed which
were each asked three questions :
1 . How many full-time park maintenance staff do you have assign-
ed to your winter rink flooding program?
2 . How many city pleasure skating rinks do you maintain?
3 . How many city hockey rinks do you maintain?
• The responses from the seven communities are as follows :
Shoreview 6 full-time staff
5 pleasure skating rinks
6 hockey rinks
Ratio - 54.5 ( full-time staff to sheets of ice )
Fridley 12 full-time staff
16 pleasure skating rinks
9 hockey rinks
Ratio - 48 ( full-time staff to sheets of ice )
New Brighton 7 full-time staff
9 pleasure skating rinks
6 hockey rinks
Ratio - 46.6 ( full-time staff to sheets of ice )
Roseville 5 full-time staff
8 pleasure skating rinks
7 hockey rinks
1 speed skating
Ratio - 31 .25 ( full-time staff to sheets of ice )
Spring Lake Pk . 2 full-time staff
4 pleasure skating rinks
3 hockey rinks
• Ratio - 28.5 ( full-time staff to sheets of ice )
