Lights are available at this site, however, there is no shelter. <br /> Neighborhood Skating Ponds <br /> During past skating seasons the Parks Department maintained several neighborhood <br /> ponds by removing snow and flooding the rink. This has been an economical way <br /> for providing skating for neighborhoods without the overhead expense of shelters <br /> and supervisors. <br /> Neighborhood ponds maintained were:Floral Park Arden Manor Park <br /> Cummings Park Indian Oaks Court <br /> This past winter was a disaster for neighborhood ronds. The combination of water <br /> soaked soil , mild fall tempatures and the heavy November snow on unfrozen ground <br /> made it nearly impossible to maintain the neighborhood ponds on a regular basis. <br /> • Participation Report <br /> Ice skating participation can best be divided in six categories. <br /> General Skating - Neighborhood non structured hockey & broomball <br /> Arden Hills Youth Skating Lessons - Lake Region Youth Hockey <br /> Bethel College Intramural Broomball - Mounds View Physical Education Classes <br /> General Skating <br /> General skating is very popular through the holidays. The youth and some adulalso <br /> have leisure time to skate. The change of seasons and novelty of ice skating <br /> encourages active participation. General skating avtivity does decline as the <br /> newness wears off and the cold weather sets <br /> borhood Hockey & Fro <br /> Neigh omball d adults have increased among <br /> Informal hockey and broomball actitivies for youth an <br /> groups, businessess, companies and church groups. Participation in Hockey and <br /> broomball is usually strong and constant through the skating season. <br /> Youth Ice Skating Lessons <br /> Interest in skating lessons continues to be strong, 29 individuals registered for the <br /> lessons this season at Valentine Park. Lessons are scheduled for Saturday mornings. <br /> Lake Region Youth Hockey <br /> This past season four youth teams were assigned to Arden {-tills Rinks for practice <br /> and playing home games. <br /> • Mites Joe Mauricio <br /> Squirts Joe Bender <br /> Pee Wees Joe Mauricio <br /> Bantams Gary Niemczyk <br /> The teams averaged two practices and one game per week at the rinks. All games were <br /> scheduled at Perry Park, practices were divided between Perry and Hazelnut Park. <br /> Bethel College Intramural Broomball <br /> Co-ed broomball is the most popular intramural sport activity that Bethel sponsors <br /> during the year. Forty-eight teams registered to play this year with over 650 <br /> students participating. Bethel games were scheduled at the Mounds View rink Monday <br /> through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Additional games were scheduled <br /> at Freeway, Hazelnut and Perry Park. Bethel Intramural paid $720.00 this season <br /> for the use of lights for broomball . <br /> • Mounds View Physical Education Classes <br /> Co-ed broomball is extremely popular at the Mounds View High School too. Bitter <br /> students from playing broomball during <br /> cold tempatures or snow storms did not stop the <br /> their physical education period. <br />
