APPENDIX A
• 2-4-80
ARDEN FA LLS PARKS AND RECREAT i ON COW I TTEE
GUIDELINES FOR PARK DEVELOPMENT
The Arden HIIis Parks and Recreation Committee Is developing its park
facility plans In accordance with several guiding principles. We recognize,
however, that each neighborhood and each piece of park land are unique;
specifically, park plans must be based on these unique features and constraints
In addition to general principles. Nevertheless, we have used the following
as general guidelines for our park de0elopment plans:
i
1 . Children and youth in each neighborhood should have access to a
variety of recreational experiences. This means that where suitable
space is available, neighborhood parks should provide year-round
recreational facilities, as well as both passive and active recrea-
tional opportunities.
• in light of this, we are developing a park system in which each
neighborhood park contains, as appropriate, the following facilities:
1 . A tot lot for young children.
2. Climbin c equipment for somewhat older children.
3. A hard surface area for various types of games (with a bas-
ketball hoop of one end).
4. Appropriate landscaping- including shaded seating areas for
parents or others who are watching small children.
5. Any internal pathways needed to access various facilities.
6. Parking areas, consistent with the activity- Jevels planned
for the park.
7. Provide best possible off-street access to all parks.
These facilities are to receive top priority anc' be established once a
neighborhood begins to develop.
Older children and families in each neighborhood should have access to:
S. A general skating area.
• 9. An area in which to play softball (overlapping with a genera!
multipurpose field where room allows).
