First, I wanted to mention that you asked if we wanted to see updates to Floral park. I <br />struggled with whether to put yes or no. Next time it might be nice if you had some sort <br />of way that people can respond with how MUCH they want something done (such as a <br />scale of 1-10). I'm certainly not against improvements to Floral park, but at the same <br />time I don't think anything is super urgent. One thing I am not sure about, is when is the <br />right time to replace play structures. The play structure at Floral park gets used alot, <br />and it is wonderful to have it there. However, I don't think it's worth replacing it at this <br />point. I used to go use Cummings park alot wtih my child, and I was very surprised when <br />the city replaced the play structure. It was still in fantastic condition, in my view, so it <br />didn't seem like the best use of city funds. The play structure at Floral park seems in <br />relatively good condition as well--so not sure if it's really time to replace it? I walk <br />through that park literally every day, and play with my child there many days as well. I <br />think it's a nice, small park and I love the flower gardens and little trails around it. I was <br />suprised your survey didn't mention the flower gardens, as that is a huge part of the <br />park. I think it would be good to more formally upgrade the garden beds a little bit and <br />make them a bit more structured. Maybe some bricks around the garden bed or that <br />sort of thing? Then, you could ask for volunteers to do various tasks for the garden each <br />year. I know George Kruse and another guy take care of the gardens, which is <br />wonderful. I think it would be good to more formally invite others in the community on <br />a regular basis to help out at Floral park. The city could even do a bit of programming <br />there for adults and kids (monarchs, perennial gardening, composting, etc...). I said <br />I'd like to see a bike rack--it would be nice, but not super necessary. It's such a small <br />park it's not like I worried that people would steal my bike while I was there. I do <br />appreciate the porta-potty in the summer, it's really nice to have it there. It would be <br />nice to have water there, if you're going to upgrade the water for gardening, it would be <br />nice if it was drinkable too, if that' was not too expensive. I would suggest making <br />sure the sidewalks are maintained well there, as many people walk and bike through <br />that park every day. In addition, it would be good to have more flexible seating there, <br />under the shade area. I think some people, like seniors or people with various <br />disabilities might have issues getting into the picnic table benches. Might be good to <br />have seating that's somehow more flexible for those kinds of folks as well. <br />f. I volunteer at the park maintaining an owls nest that I built and installed in 2018. The <br />pair of Great Horned owls there have raised 2 sets of owlets and are preparing now to <br />nest again and lay eggs. I'm am VERY CONCERNED about the plan to remove dead trees <br />at this park. Dead/dying trees are an integral part of an owls habitat, along with other
