PTRC’s View <br />•Initial plan was to research the use of goats to mitigate buckthorn <br />•Goats are eco-friendly <br />•Almost all seeds consumed by goats do not survive digestive process <br />•Using goats would increase public awareness that Arden Hills takes buckthorn <br />(and its parks) seriously—Great public relations! <br />•Excellent education opportunity for schools and the community <br />•Goats grazing would mimic the natural disturbances that our wooded areas <br />would otherwise experience if not for the proximity of residential homes <br />•With homes nearby, forest fires in the woods no longer occurs naturally <br />•Using goats offers collateral benefit of eliminating other invasives <br />•Goats love garlic mustard and poison ivy– YUM! <br />8
