<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />To recognize National Police Week 2023 <br />and to honor the service and sacrifice <br />of those law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty <br />while protecting our communities and safeguarding our democracy <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 1962 President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers <br />Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, National Police Week was established by a joint resolution of the Unity <br />States Congress in 1962; and <br /> <br />WHERAS, there are approximately 800,000 law enforcement officers serving in <br />communities across the United States, including the dedicated members of the Ramsey County <br />Sheriff’s Office; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, every day, law enforcement officers are the first to be on the scene to help <br />those in need and are dedicated to serving the community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, National Police Week pays special recognition to law enforcement officers <br />who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, over 50,000 assaults against law enforcement officers are reported each <br />year, resulting in approximately 14,000 injuries; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1786, almost 24,000 law enforcement <br />officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice and been killed in the line of duty, <br />including six members of the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the names of these dedicated public servants are engraved on the walls of <br />the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 2022, 224 officers were killed nationwide in the line of duty and their <br />names will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial this spring; and <br />
