EDC Minutes <br />February 5, 2020 <br />Page 3 of 3 <br /> <br />Chair Erickson suggested choosing five young businesses, do the drop off and put a small article <br />about them in the City newsletter. <br /> <br />Staff will bring a plan to the April meeting. <br /> <br />6. UPDATES <br /> <br />A. Commission Members <br /> <br />Commissioner Radziej asked what was the driving force behind the City tax increase. <br /> <br />Council Liaison McClung expalined that was was a combination of roads, fund balances, public <br />safety and upcoming needs of the City. The current increase was to mitigate large spikes in the <br />future. <br /> <br />B. Council Liaison <br /> <br />Council Liaison McClung noted the fire department did a needs assessment and they are in need <br />of a new, larger location. They are considering a location in Arden Hills. <br /> <br />C. Staff Comments <br /> <br />Community Development Manager/City Planner Mrosla said the State of the City would be at <br />Land O’Lakes. Planning continues for the event. <br /> <br />Community Development Manager/City Planner Mrosla noted that staff met with a developer <br />regarding Gateway Boulevard parcel at 694 and 35W. They are potentially proposing an <br />office/warehouse. Summit Development will start constructing 120 units of senior living in June <br />on Parkshore Drive. They will also be creating a new City park as part of the development. <br />Valentine Hills Elementary School will be adding am 9,000 square foot classroom addition and a <br />1,000 square foot cafeteria addition. A speed change will be approved soon for Moundsview High <br />School area and a roadway study will be completed soon that is geared at making pedestrian traffic <br />safer. Boston Scientific is requesting a minor site plan addition, Brausen Automotive is requesting <br />a materials change for their new facility. The Perkins site changed brokers but there is no <br />movement yet. <br /> <br />7. ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />The meeting adjourned at 9:00 a.m. <br /> <br />
