<br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 81-81 <br /> <br />. <br />RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSED RAMSEY COUNTY <br />HOTEL/MOTEL TAX <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Arden HIlls CIty CouncIl has revIewed <br />the proposed BI I I for an Act amending Minnesota Statutes 1978, <br />Section 477A.OI, Subdivlslon 18, and <br />WHEREAS, said amendm3nt would authorize the Board <br />of Ramsey County Commissioners to levy a tax on gross receIpts <br />of~:1motels or room services In the county exclusive of <br />'\ ' <br />the City of St. Paul, and <br />WHEREAS, the Intent apparently Is to.aJlocate the <br />tax proceeds as follows: one third to the County, one thIrd <br />to suburban municipalities and one third to the suburban <br />Chamber of Commerce convention or tourist bureau, and <br />WHEREAS, It appears .that Ramsey County plans to turn <br />over I~s allocation to St. Paul to finance Its arts-sclence- <br /> <br />culture hci litles (e.g. Landmark Center, St. Paul Arts & <br /> <br />ScIence, etc.). <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Arden Hills <br /> <br />City Council opposes the proposed Ramsey County Hotel/Motel <br /> <br />Tax, and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that: <br /> <br />I . <br /> <br />local taxes should be Imposed and collected <br />by municipalities at their discretion, <br /> <br />:. <br /> <br />2. there Is no documentation concerning suburban <br />usage of the arts and science facilities in <br />the City of St. Paul, and <br /> <br />3. It Is Inappropriate to use a hotel/motel tax <br />to support chambers of commerce, and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of <br />, <br /> <br />this Resolution be forwarded to the Ram~ey County Board of <br /> <br />Commissioners and to the Ramsey County League of ~ocal Govern- <br /> <br />ments. <br /> <br />Passed by the'Arden Hills City <br /> <br />Counc II th I s 9th day of Nov. 1981. <br />,/"/ <br />.,.~~ <br />40bert L.
