CONSENT ITEM— 8G
It
,-iIZEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: November 13, 2023
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
FROM: Dave Perrault, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Authorization to Recruit for a Permit Technician/Office Support Specialist
Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source:
$65,000 $65,000 Various Funds
Council Should Consider
Motions to approve, table, or deny the following:
• Recruit for a Permit Technician/Office Support Specialist position.
Background
The City currently has a vacancy following the resignation of the Office Support Specialist.
Following review of this position, Staff is recommending this position's title be changed to Permit
Technician/Office Support Specialist; this is due to the fact that most of work this position does is
related to creating, processing, and issuing permits (building, sewer, water, zoning, etc.). Work
relating to processing these permits can often be complex and requires a special knowledge and
skillset. Taking this into consideration, Staff is also recommending the position be moved up a
grade from Grade 7 to Grade 8 on our compensation scale. The current hourly pay range for the
position is $24.56 - $31.12, the revised range would be $26.04 - $32.98. Upgrading this position
puts us closer to what the market would demand and should better our chances at recruiting a
qualified individual. The Personnel Committee has reviewed this recommendation and is
supportive.
Anticipated process:
-Council approves authorization to begin the recruitment process
-Staff posts for the position
-Staff reviews applications and selects interview candidates and selects a finalist
-Staff will bring forward a finalist for official Council approval
Page 1 of 2
