ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—NOVEMBER 27, 2023 19
13. COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilmember Monson explained the public asked about the number of housing units and if
the number would go up or down. She reported the 1,960 was a proposed number. She
commented if this number needed to change this would be considered by the JDA. She stated she
was not going to say that the number would not go up, , but at this point, she did not anticipate the
number would go up. She said she cannot say this for sure but that was her feeling today on the
density number.
Councilmember Monson reported the Energy Advisory Committee has released and RFP for an
energy consultant and responses were expected mid-December. This consultant would help with
the energy vision for the Rice Creek Commons development.
Mayor Grant stated mayors and city administrators from seven cities met last week and shared
information on what was occurring within their community.
Mayor Grant explained the City received two thank you's from election judges. He discussed
how Ramsey County runs the City's elections, but the City works to provide its election judges
with boxed lunches for election judges who serve.
City Administrator Perrault reported he was working with the Communications Coordinator to
confirm a time and location for the State of the City, which would be held on Saturday, February
10. He proposed this event be held at City Hall at 10:00 a.m. The Council supported this
recommendation.
Councilmember Monson asked if staff had dates for the LMCIT meeting and Council retreat.
City Administrator Perrault stated the LMCIT meeting would be held on Wednesday, January 3
at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. He noted the Council retreat date would be set after the LMCIT meeting.
He indicated he would be bringing a contract forward for the consultant in December and
anticipated the retreat would be held in the first quarter of 2024.
Councilmember Holden suggested the contract not be brought forward until staff and the
Council had agreed on a date for the retreat.
Councilmember Monson supported staff bringing the contract forward as an effort to commit the
City Council and staff to holding a retreat.
