RICE CREEK COMMONS (RCC) Increased Density Hearing 12/6/2023.
Lyle R. Salmela REM,1480 Arden Vista Court, Arden Hills, 55112
I support the increase of residential density for Rice Creek Commons from 1460
to 1960 units. This will expand regulatory; technology and economic needs as
follows:
Developers are building architect designed affordable residences at Dayton's
Bluff overlooking downtown St. Paul. They are in the price range to be
affordable for low income young and old. They are energy efficient, and the
technology could be applied for Rice Creek Commons.
The energy expectations for Rice Creek Commons is reducing greenhouse gases.
To achieve this, clean all -electric energy is the most efficient and economical
way.
The efficiency of clean energy technology in the past 10 years has achieved that
through: smart meters, time -of -use rates, battery storage, heat pumps,
induction cooking, electric vehicles and others. This allows us to reduce energy
needs by about half.
These innovations would allow Rice Creek Commons to become the most energy
efficient community in the state and make this increased density cost effective.
This is demonstrated in an internet video by the U of M Extension Service,
"Demystification of Electrification by John Suzukida" .
