Trials Comments by Rich Straumann, Co -Chair Bike Walk Team
Active Living Ramsey (County) Communities aka ALRC
Resident of Arden Hills & Advocate for NW Ramsey County (including Arden Hills) Trails
See my Trail notes below this summary:
The city is exploring two trails right now and trying to find funding for them both.
lud love to hear your opinion on bondino for these trails In the eventwe receivem
minimum level of funding or no fundina at all.
While trying to find funding is very important, the trade off is that it can take years to be
successful. I'm wondering if there is appetite to bond if we are unsuccessful in obtaining funding
from other sources.
I heard on the campaign trail that some would prefer to construct earlier rather than wait the
years to get funding and I'm curious if that still holds true.
The first trail Is the Lake Johanna Blvd trail.
This trail is in partnership with Ramsey County.
We have co -submitted for a grant that would cover $5.5M of the -$9/10M trail.
The earliest the trail could be completed is in 2028. (Hopefully Road Improvements also - Rich)
The second trail Is Old Highway 10 from Lake Valentine Road north to Hwy 96.
We have submitted it for state bonding and
approved additional submissions to two other funding sources.
If funding comes throuah, the soonest construction could be is 2025. though more likely 2026
Rich's Trails Comments:
First of all - Thanks for the 2023 recent Trail Improvements up to Mounds View High
School and the trails around the newly installed roundabout at Lindey's Park comer.
The Trail alona Old Highway 10 is crucial to an Overall Trail Plan to providing an
all-around Round Lake Trail that also needs more West & South trail segments.
That East -side trail segment is paramount to keeping that all-around trail progressing.
It should be constructed ASAP and no longer just studied (since 2008) for more years
The Trail along Lake Johanna Boulevard is crucial to Overall Trail Plan to providing an
extensive system of trail connections to Tony Schmidt Regional Park (TSRP) & the
surrounding areas in Central Arden Hills. Ramsey County has completed many trail
segments within TSRP. Arden Hills has also connected TSRP, via trail, to Perry Park.
Ramsey County trail planners have done a study - ASAP funding is also needed!
Also fund planned/needed connection from the ELA Memorial Trail down the hill to trail.
